The DR-60D DSLR field recorder is a remarkable new product from Tascam.
Over the past few years we have seen several products that partner with your DSLR camera to assist with recording sound.
Most of these devices attempt to bridge the gap between the remarkable picture quality of the DSLR and what they leave lacking in audio capture quality.
This new product from Tascam brings a whole host of features to the table that have not been seen together in a single package before. And if I may say so, at a very reasonable price!
Above, Tascam promo film on YouTube
To summarise, the recorder
has 2 x Jack/XLR mic/line inputs (with switchable phantom power),has 1 x 3.5mm stereo mic input (plug-in power available),a 4 track WAV/BWAV SD card recorder, records stereo (AB or MS),records 2 x mono, records 4 tracks (2 x mono + stereo, or 2 x stereo)records dual stereo (second stereo track has same source but at reduced level as backup against clipping),has a 3.5mm camera output (variable mic level output for camera guide track to aid synch later on in post),a 3.5mm line level output,a 3.5mm headphone output, and it also has a tone slate function to aid synching your recordings. So, as you can see, a long list of rather unique features that will appeal to all. It should solve the problem of interfacing into a variety of different DSLR cameras, with the added advantage of recording up to four tracks onto SD card. DUAL MONO and DUAL STEREO modes automatically provide a back-up safety track incase the initial levels where set too high and clips/peaks were encountered. The safety track can be set to record at -6dB to -12dB lower than the initial take. All in all this is a very attractive field recorder ready for DSLR use. Tascam DR-60D section on Tascam website |

The DC-R302 is a compact 3 channel input mixer/stereo recorder which is best suited for those working with DSLR.
DSLR cameras have become a format of choice for many shooting video, but the sound functions on this breed of camera has been somewhat lacking in terms of connectivity and monitoring/metering of sound.
This is where this mixer recorder from Fostex comes into its own.
It can be easily attached to the base of the camera using the supplied top-mounting bracket. Thus giving the camera operator easy access to the mixing and recording functions.
The DCR302 has three inputs that are selectable mic (optional P48 phantom powering on each channel) or line. The inputs have optional bass cuts at 80Hz and 200Hz, gain settings, and are selectable to route to left, right or centre.
The headphones can be slected to monitor left, right, stereo or return.
As well as gain for each channel and for the headphones, from the front panel you can also control the built in SD card recorder.
On the right hand side you will find the battery bay (where you will find the slot for the SD card), a pair of line level outputs on phonos (for connecting to the DSLR camera), and sockets for camera return monitoring, headphones, wired remote and external power in. Here you will also find a USB socket for file transfer (or for streaming output to PC).
"Remote?" I hear you say, yes with the use of a wired remote such as the Panasonic DMW-RS1 or equivalent the recorder can remotely start and stop recording at the same time as the DSLR.
On the left there are 3 XLR inputs and a mic level output on 3.5mm jack. This would suit cameras that only have mic level in.
All up this is a small and perfectly capable solution for those who are self-recording sound, and are looking to capture better audio on location when shooting on DSLR.
Delivery contains the DC-R302 mixer/recorder, detachable top-mounting camera bracket and AA battery caddy.

We are pleased to bring you news of the latest version of the popular MixPre, the MixPre-D
This little fella has been given a digital upgrade to give a whole pile of Bang for your Buck and to make it the perfect tool to use in this new era of aquiring footage digitally.
The key additions that has impressed us are: The provision of a selectable AES out, the provision of a USB out for audio streaming to a PC or MAC (or even Linux). The provision of a nice stereo out on a locking connector to connect to a DSLR type camera, and the selectable MS matrix on the inputs.
I won't copy and paste all the Sound Devices blurb here, use the link below to check the published fact sheet.
Also available is a mounting bracket - see further down this page for details.

The DC-5D1 is a dummy battery adaptor for the Canon EOS D5/D7. Attached to a cable mounted 2-Pin Power-Con (D-Tap), it allows the user to power an EOS Camera from an external broadcast battery source.
Now prominently used in HD recording and time-lapse photography, these cameras can now be powered from V-Lok (and other) types of battery. The advantages of using a single high capacity battery over dozens of standard Canon LP-E6 batteries are obvious.
The DC-5D1 just needs to be plugged into a D-Tap power socket on a suitable battery fitting, like our DC-CA5 Canon Power Boxes. The dummy battery contains an 8.4V regulator, so is compatible with any output distributing 10-20V.
SPECIFICATIONS Dimensions HxWxD(cm): 45cm Cable Output: 8.4V Regulator Fitted Input Plug: Cable-Mounted 2-Pin Power-Con

Rycote's Extension Handle has been designed to allow products with a female 3/8" thread, i.e. portable audio recorder or camera to be either hand-held or mounted on a 3/8" male thread, such as a microphone stand or boom pole. Thanks to its ergonomic, soft-grip feel, the handle can be used to comfortably hand-hold recording devices, and can be used together with our Portable Recorder Suspension, or InVision Broadcast suspension mounts.
