The NP-98D is a 98Wh 14.4V lithium-ion NP1 battery designed for professional location sound, providing high-capacity power for mixer-recorders, wireless systems and power-distribution equipment.

The “D” data version adds battery communication through compatible NP1 shoes and power systems. Used with the correct Hawk-Woods data adaptor, it can pass battery telemetry such as remaining runtime and percentage to compatible Sound Devices 833, 888 and Scorpio mixer-recorders.

Important Notes

• Battery data is only available when every part of the connection path supports the NP1 data contacts.
• For Sound Devices 833, 888 and Scorpio telemetry, use a compatible Hawk-Woods data-capable NP1 shoe such as NPD-TA4 or NPD1.
• Sound Devices notes that its XL-NPTA4 NP1 adaptor does not support Hawk-Woods data communication.
• Hawk-Woods marks the NP-98D as flight safe, but airline approval and lithium-ion baggage rules must still be checked before travel.
• Follow Hawk-Woods lithium-ion charging and storage guidance to protect battery life and warranty.

The additional data contacts allow compatible Hawk-Woods NP1 shoes and distribution systems to pass battery information onward. With the correct NPD-TA4 or NPD1 data-capable connection, Sound Devices 8-Series recorders can display useful battery information including remaining time and percentage.
